Letchworth Garden City - Worth Your Time

Worth your timeWe're always looking for new General Governors to join the volunteer team that helps steer the direction of the Heritage Foundation. Can you help?

In particular, we're looking for business professionals from a commercial property, charity or marketing and communications background. It's essential that our Governor team has a cross section of knowledge and experience and after a review we'd like add these skills.

Below is a brief outline of what Governors do, along with a Governor's Role 'job specification' and application form that you can download. Please browse this website to gain a greater insight into our work, there are various videos and documents that will quickly give you a snapshot into our unique organisation.

What Governors do

Governors play a vital role in our work, there are 30 in total. As a Governor you will attend quarterly meetings and can stand for election to the Board of Management. Governors vote to elect the board.

You will provide input to the Board, helping to guide our Strategic Plans and share your views at consultation meetings. You will be invited to comment on the current issues, draft policies, strategies and future initiatives.

Many Governors also participate in workshops and represent us on internal committees and external bodies.

General Governors

A total of 14 General Governors are appointed by the Board of Management, these Governors are selected on the basis of the skills and experience they can bring to our team. We are currently keen to recruit business professionals in the fields of commercial property, chartiable giving, and marketing and communications.

Elected Governors

The majority of the Governors, 16 of the 30, are elected from outside the Foundation. Six are elected through a postal ballot, once every five years, by registered voters from the ‘public’ Register of Electors for Letchworth Garden City. Eight are nominated and elected by clubs and organisations. Two are elected councillors appointed by Herts County Council and North Hertfordshire District Council.
