In October 2011, our Small Grants Committee awarded a grant of £500 to aspiring Letchworth Garden City teenage artist, Hannah Whittall towards the costs of exhibiting her work at Gaudi's Casa Batllo Museum in Barcelona.

Plinston update

Plinston Hall, funded and run by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, is making preparations ahead of a planned re-launch. Customer research is now underway, with the results helping to define the nature of the refurbishment and Plinston Hall’s future offering.

Plinston’s live events programme ended this week with some private hire functions continuing until March. The team has worked hard to help the clubs and societies relocate.

Get a new outfit at the Heritage Museum's Vintage Swap Shop

On Saturday, 5 February, fashion-lovers can pick up professional vintage hair and beauty advice from make-up artist Dani Richardson, and exchange old clothes, for free.

The Heritage Museum’s ‘Vintage Swap Shop’, open between 5pm and 8pm, will also feature boutique clothes and accessories for sale from local store, Jolly Brown. Tea and cakes, served on classic vintage China, will be available from local vintage company, ‘Buns & Bunting’.

John Harper visits the Garden City to present his fascinating illustrated talk, revealing the secrets behind Letchworth’s codebreaking heroics in World War II.

John recalls 10 years of hard work rebuilding a ‘Bombe’, a machine which decoded Germany’s secret messages during the war, capable of scrambling a code in 150,000,000,000,000,000,000 ways!

Five new business units to be built in Works Road

The Foundation has agreed terms with Packington Estate Enterprises Ltd on a 150 year long leasehold letting of the former Opalion Plastics site in Works Road.  Comprising approximately one acre, planning permission has been granted for the construction of five new business units totalling 18,760 sq ft.  These will be available on long leases, bringing new industry and new jobs to the Garden City.
