Plinston update

A picture of Plinston Hall

Plinston Hall, funded and run by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, is making preparations ahead of a planned re-launch. Customer research is now underway, with the results helping to define the nature of the refurbishment and Plinston Hall’s future offering.

Plinston’s live events programme ended this week with some private hire functions continuing until March. The team has worked hard to help the clubs and societies relocate.

Letchworth schools take to the big screen

Letchworth schools take to the big screen

Last week, ten Letchworth Garden City schools watched a free film at Broadway Cinema to support learning in the classroom. This is the second year the independent cinema, owned and managed by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, has taken part in National Schools Film Week. This year, over 1,600 children, teachers and parents visited the cinema; more than double last year’s attendance.

The Wynd welcomes new retailers

The Wynd

As preparations continue for the major redevelopment of The Wynd in 2011, the opportunity has arisen to welcome a number of new retailers to the area.

With long-term tenants now relocated to other premises in the town, new 'short-term' space has been made available. This space is perfect for 'business start-ups' looking to test the market without the pressure of a long term commitment.

Cinema very much ‘in the frame’

A £1m refurbishment of Broadway Cinema, a major exhibition tracing the history of cinema in the world’s first Garden City, two Open Weekends,  movie quiz and the chance to win cash in a vote to find the ‘peoples’ film choice.’

Not only film buffs, but the public as a whole, will have plenty to savour in a feast of ‘everything cinema’ over the next few months, in Letchworth Garden City.

North Hertfordshire's Voluntary Sector Fair is back after two years, bringing to light many new and different voluntary opportunities. A total of 68 organisations will be exhibiting at this Heritage Foundation event, sponsored by North Herts CVS and North Hertfordshire College, on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October at two nearby venues – the Plinston and the Goldsmith Centre – both on Broadway, Letchworth Garden City.

So, Letchworth Garden City Council is launching an investigation into “Landlord’s Consent” controls the Foundation exercises and the way they are applied. The Council does so at a time when many communities, nationwide, who do not have the benefit of Schemes of Management, or Covenants in leases, fear the Government’s inclination to reduce planning restrictions by allowing more “permitted development”.
