Letchworth GC helps restore elm population

One of 108 elms to be planted in Letchworth GC

Over one hundred elm trees are to be grown in Letchworth GC as part of a nationwide project. The Conservation Foundation has launched ‘The Great British Elm Experiment’ attempting to reintroduce 10,000 elm trees across the UK and find out why some survived Dutch elm disease of the 1960’s, wiping out over 25 million of the trees in the UK.

A sell-out crowd of nearly 300 people saw the fabulous RAF Squadronaires perform their big band beats in a charity concert last Friday evening (February 11) at Plinston, Broadway.

Organised by the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation in collaboration with RAF Letchworth, Hitchin and District branch, the concert raised £1,166.40 for the RAFA Wings Appeal.

Heritage Open Days 2009

Two former Spirella models met up for the first time after 53 years at the former corset and swimwear factory on Saturday in the world’s first Garden City.

The Spirella Building – under the ownership of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation – was the starting point for the town’s comprehensive involvement in the national Heritage Open Days, where 20 venues in the Garden City opened their doors to the public last weekend.

Saracens Sport Foundation - Tag Rugby Festival

On Friday March 14 2008, Letchworth Garden City Rugby Club hosted the Saracens Sport Foundations North Hertfordshire Tag Rugby Festival. On one of the warmest and sunniest days of the year to date, around 200 children enjoyed showcasing their tag rugby skills and having lots of fun at the same time.
