Allotments, Caravan Storage and Garages

Allotments
The Heritage Foundation has a number of allotments across Letchworth Garden City, which it rents to local people for the growing of fruit and vegetables for their own use. The main areas of allotments are located off Lytton Avenue, South View, Saffron Hill, Bedford Road, and Common View although there are other smaller sites. The rents for the allotments are £46 per year. There is a 50% price reduction for pensioners, unemployed people and students. Deposits are payable to the equivalent of six months rent on allotments.

Caravan Storage
The Heritage Foundation has a caravan standing area in Letchworth Garden City, which it rents to local people for the storage of caravans. The site is located at Wilbury Hills and the current cost of renting a caravan standing is:

Up to 20ft in length 
Licence Fee: £255.32
VAT: £44.68
Rates: £60.00

TOTAL £360.00

Over 20ft in length
Licence Fee: £331.91
VAT: £58.08
Rates: £60.01

TOTAL £450.00

Please be aware that the licence fee is due annually in advance.

The site is protected by a security system, and all tenants are issued with an encoded fob to allow them to gain access, although access is restricted to between the hours of 8am and 8pm. All caravans stored at Wilbury Hills are required to have some sort of security device fitted, such as a wheel clamp.

The site now offers the added facilities of an on-site WC and an area for washing down your caravan.

It should also be emphasised that the consent of the Heritage Foundation is normally required for the siting of a caravan or commercial vehicle on the frontage of a property within the Letchworth Estate. Clarification from the Heritage Foundation should be sought regarding this matter.

Garages
The Heritage Foundation has a number of garage blocks across Letchworth Garden City, which it rents to local people for the storage of private motor vehicles. We have blocks of garages off Broadwater Dale, Common View, in Willian and Norton and individual garages at other places in the town. The rents for the garages vary, depending on location, from £22 to £35 per month. Often, we have garages available for rent. Deposits are payable to the equivalent of three months rent on garages.

Please note the following lettings policy will be adopted in priority order:

• Letchworth residents be given priority on lettings.
• Only one garage be let to any one household.
• Priority be given to those:
  
  • intending to use the garage for vehicle in daily use
  • with no, or limited, parking within the curtalage of their home; and
  • living within reasonable walking distance of the garage court in question.
