Picture This 2007 - Photographic Competition

The Heritage Foundation’s ‘Picture This’ Photographic competition aimed to capture the public’s passion for Letchworth Garden City. Tasked with photographing Letchworth Garden City’s landmark buildings and environmental features, the competition attracted over 50 entrants, each submitting three photographs.

Launched during the Garden City’s festival week in July 2007, the competition was open to all, with our youngest entrant just four years old. Up for grabs was a £1000 of photographic equipment split between a winner and runner up in two categories, over 18s and under 18s.

The quality of entries was very high and although many photographs displayed the same landmarks, each had its own individual style, making it very hard to choose a favourite. The competition closed in August 2007 with an exhibition of entries held as part of Heritage Open Days on the weekend of the 8th & 9th September.

With so many top quality photographs, the task of selecting a winner fell to a group of independent photography enthusiasts. Following a number of hours of deliberating and review, two winners were selected (over 18s and under 18s) along with one runner up in each category and a further four entries the judges felt worthy of commending.

Following the great success of the 2007 competition, ‘Picture This’ may be repeated in 2008-09, as such keep taking those photographs you never know you might be a winner next time.
