Fountains Update

Fountains in Leys Square are affected by the South East hosepipe ban

We turned off the fountains in Leys Square, The Colonnade and at The Spirella Building back in early April to help with the drought situation as part of the hosepipe ban throughout the South East.

Although our fountains use their own water reservoir, evaporation and spray overspill means that when the water gets down to a certain level, it fills up from the mains rather than run dry.

North Herts Bowls Club kicked off their season last Tuesday (24 April) with a short ceremony to celebrate their newly re-laid walkway around the bowling green on Norton Common.

In February we were a major funder with a £3,000 community grant. This work has made the bowling green safer and more accessible. The ceremony was attended by Alastair Stewart, Head of Charitable Partnerships & Projects and Charmaine Rogers, a Governor and member of the Small Grants Committee.

Nothing Gained by Overcrowding

Nothing Gained by Overcrowding

Leading housing and planning charity, the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has marked the centenary of Raymond Unwin’s, ‘Nothing Gained by Overcrowding!', by republishing his pamphlet alongside an exploration of how his ideas can be applied today. The report, being launched in parliament today, illustrates that a holistic approach to designing new communities provides an opportunity to consider how homes and neighbourhoods can be made attractive, socially inclusive places in which to live and work – and, in today’s context, resilient to climate change.

Doing our bit…

We’re temporarily turning off the fountains in Letchworth’s town centre and the Spirella Building to help with the drought situation. This follows a hosepipe ban for domestic use in South East of England, which came into affect today.

The town centre fountains use their own water reservoir but evaporation and spray overspill means that when the water gets down to a certain level it fills up from the mains rather than run dry.
