15 years of Primary Schools Music in Letchworth
A performance from primary schoolchildren of St Thomas More
Letchworth Garden City Primary School’s came together recently to perform a range of music under a ‘One World’ theme taking the ‘Celebration of Letchworth Garden City Schools Music’ event into its 15th year.
All 14 Letchworth primary schools took to the stage at Plinston Hall in front of nearly 1,200 proud parents and teachers over four days (28 to 31 March). The schools took turns to showcase world music influences, ranging from classic Caribbean, African and Indian songs to more recent pop music from Michael Jackson.
The school’s interpretation of the ‘One World’ theme was aided by £7,000 of financial support from Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation. This was spent by the schools on anything from professional staff development, performance workshops and musical instruments.
Alastair Stewart, the Foundation’s Education and Sports Development Manager said: “This is a special and unique event, providing the children with a huge personal boost, developing self confidence and self esteem. A combination of Foundation funding and Letchworth’s head teacher’s strong desire to offer their pupils exciting, enriching and beneficial experiences, enables the town to host such wonderful and enjoyable performances.”
St Christopher School teacher Sally Wall added “The children really enjoyed our project and they got a huge amount out of it. We would certainly never have been able to do it without the funding from the Foundation.”
