Design a Banner or Flag for Letchworth Garden City - Winners Selected

Earlier this year, budding artists and designers, of all ages were invited to design a flag (ages 16 and under) or a banner (ages 17 and over) that illustrates their ‘take’ on the world's first Garden City.

Banners were popular in the early years of the Garden City, proudly displayed by organisations at Letchworth’s many
events, processions and grand occasions. With the Town Centre’s new sculptures inspired by the Garden City’s most famous banner – ‘Foursquare Our City’; the time is right for banners and flags to make a ‘comeback’.

Attracting over 50 entries, the standard of artwork was high, presenting the judges with the difficult task of choosing the winners. After much deliberation Master Tharusha Wanigatunge was selected as the 16s and under winner with Mrs Barbara Searle taking the acclaim as the adult winner.

The winning designs and every entry can been seen in a shop window display at 22-24 Leys Avenue opposite the fountains. All the entries can also be viewed online at www.gardencitymuseum.org/banners

The display and online exhibition showcases the talent, imagination and effort of all those that entered. Thank you to everybody that took part.
