Colin Jackson takes to the stage

Colin Jackson addresses Garden City Sports Clubs

A former Olympic Silver Medallist, World Champion and World Record holder graced the stage at the recent Heritage Foundation’s Sports Clubs Dinner in the Spirella Ballroom.

Guest of honour and former top flight hurdler Colin Jackson addressed an audience of Garden City Sports Clubs and other invited guests and focussed on the importance of grass roots sport. As well as sharing the highlights of an illustrious career as one of Great Britain’s premier athletes of all time, Colin answered a range of questions from the audience.

The event promoted the different ways in which the Garden City Sports Clubs have identified opportunities to develop their club and how they have linked with the Heritage Foundation to support that development.

In a keynote speech, Stuart Kenny, Director General of the Heritage Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s long and continuous support to Garden City Sports Clubs – including through its popular Sporting Success Grant Scheme – and portrayed examples by featuring four videos, showing the ‘success stories’ of North Herts and Baldock Canoe Club, Academy Badminton, Letchworth Garden City Rugby Club and Letchworth Sports and Tennis Club.

Heritage Foundation Chairman Colin Chatfield - who is also Chair of Letchworth Garden City Cricket Club and Letchworth Corner Sports Club - rounded off a successful evening with a vote of thanks and a presentation to Colin Jackson to mark the sporting legend’s visit.
