Charity screening ‘reaches for the skies’

Last Wednesday (15 September), Broadway Cinema hosted a charity screening of the classic wartime movie, the ‘Battle of Britain’ to mark the event’s 70th anniversary and raise donations for the Royal Air Force Association’s Wings Appeal.
An audience of over 200 came together at the Letchworth GC venue to remember all those from July 1940, who bravely fought in the Royal Air Forces, in what was the largest and most sustained aerial bombing of the campaign to that date. The screened BAFTA nominated film was made over 40 years ago and starred a former resident of the Garden City, the late Sir Laurence Olivier.

Thursday 7 October
1940s themed Quiz Night, 7pm, at Plinston

Thursday 14 October
‘A Dambuster’ – an illustrated talk, 7.30pm, at The Spirella Ballroom
Explore a heroic chapter in WWII and its connection to Letchworth Garden City with Arthur Creighton, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and former airline Captain. Tickets are free – reserve your seat at www.gardencitymuseum.org
