Chocks away! The world's first Garden City is bracing itself for a "top flight" performance with a 'flying' concert from The Band of the Royal Air Force College.

The concert, taking place at The Plinston on Friday 11 July, will showcase the Band in a rousing programme of music to suit all tastes from classics such as 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'Fantasia on British Sea-Songs' to hits from the movies including 'The Dam Busters', 'North and South' and 'Indiana Jones'.

The Band, based at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire, will be making the trip to Hertfordshire having put in appearances at Norwich Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and The Lord Major's Show and having recently completed tours of Germany, Holland and Northern Ireland. Led by former Letchworth Garden City schoolboy, Flight Lieutenant Chris Weldon, the Band will be helping to raise funds for service charity, the Royal Air Force Association with proceeds going to RAFA Letchworth, Hitchin and District Branch.

The band is playing the Garden City concert, thanks to special permission from the Air Force Board of the Defence Council. The event is also being strongly supported by the boys and girls of 248 (Letchworth) Squadron, Air Training Corps who will be running a raffle on the night to help raise funds for their activities.

Tickets are £12, concessions £10.50 on sale now from The Plinston Box Office on 01462 672003 or online at www.plinston.com

Doors open at 6.45pm on the night and the show begins at 7.30pm.
