Excellence Rewarded

The Winners of the Garden City Heritage Awards 2007

Heritage was very much the word in the world’s first Garden City last Thursday night.

The Garden City Heritage Awards 2007 ceremony, a celebration of architectural excellence in the Garden City, was organised by the Heritage Foundation in the Spirella Ballroom and presided upon by Paul Palmer, Chairman of the Judges and Chairman of the Architectural Heritage Advisory Group.

Celebrating best practice in improving Garden City properties – from private residences to public and company buildings – the awards attracted nearly 60 entries from five categories. The 2007 awards qualifying period, when the improvement works had to be carried out, ranged from July 1, 2005, to June 30, 2007.

Mr Palmer and Stuart Kenny, Director General of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, gave keynote speeches and presented the prizes.

The winners were:

  • Extensions: Peter Taylor, 33, Sollershott East
  • New and altered hard standings in front gardens: Peter and Jacky Legge, 193, Icknield Way.
  • Other alterations: Stephen Murphy, 50, Ridge Road
  • Non-residential buildings: North Hertfordshire District Council for Mrs Elizabeth Howard Memorial Hall
  • Best new or refurbished shop front: Peter Colvin, owner of La Concha, Station Place
