Landlord's Consent

To protect the original concepts of Ebenezer Howard, many properties, both Leasehold and Freehold, contain management obligations (or covenants) in their deeds. These require the consent of the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation for alterations materially affecting the appearance of the property. These obligations, which are contained in a lease or, if freehold, in the ‘Scheme of Management’, cover a number of areas including restrictions on the cutting of trees and hedges to running a business from home.

As the Foundation acts as the landlord and estate manager, applications for any works as covered in your specific circumstances, must be applied for permission for to the Foundation, as well as to North Hertfordshire District Council in the usual manner for planning permission. The Foundation rarely reject any applications, and in cases where works are not suitable, normally an amicable solution can be reached.
