Who can apply?
Letchworth Garden City individuals, clubs, organisations [including the voluntary, not-for-profit and statutory sectors], charities with a branch or office in the town. Organisations based outside Letchworth Garden City may qualify if they can demonstrate substantial membership from Garden City residents and there is no parallel organisation in the town.
Qualifying projects
The Heritage Foundation is particularly keen to support initiatives that promote one or more of the following:
- Arts and culture
- Education and learning
- Health
- Preservation of the environment
- Preservation of buildings and other items of historical interest
- Recreational activities
- Relief of poverty
- Social welfare
- Sporting activities
It will also support other charitable purposes as defined by the 2006 Charities Act, including the advancement of citizenship or community development and the relief of people in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
Examples of previous awards
In respect of clubs and organisations:
- The purchase of equipment or its repair.
- The staging of activities and events, especially those that are open to the public.
- Alterations to buildings, land and landscaping [provided necessary planning consents are in place].
In respect of individuals:
- Assistance to meet a special need, possibly in case of severe hardship.
- Up to 20% funding for an overseas ‘gap’ year with a clear educational or vocational element of at least four weeks duration.
- Participation in an overseas event where you are representing your country.
