Individual Grant - Laura Green

Laura was awarded £400 towards a month long voluntary placement to Mombasa, Kenya in July 2007, organised by Travellers Worldwide. Laura’s placement involved volunteering at the Calvary Zion’s Children Home in the outskirts of mainland Mombasa.

Daily tasks included hand-washing clothes, preparing food for lunches and dinners, mopping floors and spending time with the abandoned / orphaned children.

Laura found the children extremely positive about their future, despite their difficult start in life. Laura is currently studying at the University of York for a degree in ‘Applied Social Science – Children and Young People’ and hopes to continue her future career in this area.
