Grange Community Gardens
Groundwork Hertfordshire led a campaign towards creating a new community park in a key location within the Grange Estate. The £365,000 scheme was backed by North Herts District Council, North Hertfordshire Homes, Big Lottery Fund and Letchworth Garden City Council.
The project included thorough consultation with all sections of the community to establish the need for a pleasant, safe, green space for the whole community, children’s play facilities and a ‘teen’ area.
The Heritage Foundation awarded a grant of £40,000 towards the community garden, which was to replace the larger of two car parks.
Many residents are now enjoying the improved facilities, which may in turn reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and improve links between sectors of the community.
Object 2 (ii) Providing or assisting in the provision of facilities for the recreation or other leisure activity of the local community in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving their conditions of life.
