Lorna Kercher was the original Deputy for the North Hertfordshire District Council on the Heritage Foundation's Board of Management and Governors.
She was subsequently elected as a Governor in the second town-wide ballot for elected appointments to the Heritage Foundation, which took place in summer 2000. She was nominated and elected to the Board of Management at the Heritage Foundation's 2002 AGM.

She serves on the two local authorities, which cover the Garden City. She is a Councillor for the Letchworth East ward on North Hertfordshire District Council where she is Chairman of the Letchworth Garden City Area Committee. She also serves on Hertfordshire County Council as ward Councillor for Letchworth East & Baldock.

She is a Governor of Woolgrove School and has lived in the Garden City since 1965.

Her interests include education, social welfare and community affairs.
