Making An Application
In Letchworth Garden City many of the commercial properties are Leasehold. This means that prior to undertaking any alterations to your property you may require written Landlord’s Consent from the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation under the terms of your Lease.

Making your application
You should apply direct to the Heritage Foundation for Landlord's consent:

- Applicants details including, name, address and contact telephone number, together with those of your agent or advisor if you have one.
- A summary of the proposed works including a description of the proposed materials and colours to be used.
- Two copies of the location plan.
- Two copies of the existing floor plans of the property and the proposed alterations.
- Two plans showing the existing and proposed elevations of the property (please note all drawings should be to a scale of 1:50 or 1:100).
- A copy of your structural engineer’s report (if applicable).
- A copy of your tree surgeon’s report (if applicable).
- A cheque made payable to Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation to cover the appropriate application fee. The correct fee will be confirmed once you have submitted full details of the proposal.

The fees
In recent years, the number of applications received by the Heritage Foundation from Letchworth Garden City businesses to alter their Garden City properties, has steadily increased. Accordingly, all applications received by the Heritage Foundation on or after are now subject to the payment of a fee. Income generated through these charges will help to offset administration costs and, moreover, be used to fund grants to further improve the Garden City.
Landlord's Consent (Commercial)
NB all charges quoted are plus VAT.
Small applications - £160
Medium applications - £265
Major applications - £525
Plan Approval Notice - £130
Retrospective Applications
Retrospective applications for major works listed above, the fee level will be 150% of the usual fee.
Fees to the Heritage Foundation must accompany each application and should be paid by cheque only, made payable to 'LGCHF'. In the event that your application to the Heritage Foundation is refused, you will not be required to pay a further fee for a revised application, provided you submit the amended scheme within six months of the initial decision.
