Wall to Wall Success
Well-admired 1905 Garden City Exhibition Cottages are due to have their own ‘identity tags’ – thanks to a £4,224 grant from the Heritage Foundation.
The 1905 Exhibition Cottages Group – consisting of 116 owners of these dwellings – has used its grant to manufacture attractive enamel plaques based on a design created by one of its members, Ray Worbey.
“Putting these plaques up on the exterior of our members homes is our major enterprise for 2006,” stated Group Chairman, Alastair Lochhead. “We’re indebted to both the Council and the Foundation for the permissions and consents needed to do this.”
The Foundation provided a 100 per cent grant for the project after 98 per cent of the group’s members backed plans to display the commemorative plaques on their properties.
“The Foundation’s marketing team has also indicated their willingness to produce a professionally designed leaflet promoting the 1905 Exhibition Cottages trail once all the plaques are in place. This can only help to create awareness of our group and add value to the public’s appreciation of this unique collection of early Garden City properties”, Alastair added.
