Town residents vote for their 'top six'
Residents of the world's first Garden City have returned all four existing Heritage Foundation General Governors standing for re-election.
William Armitage, John Hall, Lorna Kercher and Denise Poynter were all successful in the Foundation's 'Elected Governor' elections when, 16 Garden City residents competed for six positions.
The results, announced earlier this week, saw new candidates David Walker and Rachel Fox also successful. They replace Peter Jackson and Bill Broadbent who decided not to stand this time.
The turn-out was 27.7% - 19,091 ballot papers were despatched and each voter was allowed to vote for up to six candidates. The postal ballot was conducted by the Electoral Reform Society.
Foundation Chairman Alan Scouller, said: "My congratulations go out to the successful six candidates and I would like to thank all 16 people for caring enough to stand. Letchworth Garden City is a unique town, which we are all proud of and it is encouraging so many people threw 'their hat into the ring.' I hope those that were unsuccessful this time will consider standing again. My thanks also go to Peter Jackson and Bill Broadbent for their invaluable contribution over the years."
Six of the 30 Governor places are elected every five years.
