Star Search switches to Broadway
This summer, Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation has been searching for solo performers and duos of all ages to sing or play instruments in the Garden City's very own talent contest 'search for a Star' .
In the auditions, nearly 60 hopefuls gave the competition's judges something of a dilemma and now 10 will 'do battle' in the final this Saturday, 3 July, at the fun-packed 'summer on Broadway' event.
"It was a very tough decision," said John Saltwell, Managing Director of The Cottage Studio and Chairman of the judges. "The standard was very high and we were given some excellent performances."
The prize of a day's recording at The Cottage Studio and photo makeover by music industry specialist photographers, Red Gel Photography awaits the winner. The finalists are: Melissa Baker; Danielle Bonner; Ronan Boyle; Scott Downham & Jenna Godfrey; Matt Lannon; Cheryl Norman; Roxy Searle; Andrew Taylor; Ashley Warren; Lucy Watson.
The competition, organised by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, now moves to Broadway Gardens where the finalists will battle it out live on stage on 3 July at 12noon, and the 10 will become five for a grand final at 4pm.
"We'd like to say a big thank you to all the entrants" added Alan Howard, the Foundation's Marketing & PR Director. "These auditions have been a marvellous showcase of local talent. Good luck to all the finalists and to everyone who entered the competition." The auditions judging panel included photographer Brian Pritchett, from Baldock-based Red Gel, retailer Roy Viveash from The Music Place, sound engineer Nick Crank and Cllr Lynda Needham and Cllr Tony Hartley from North Herts District Council. 'summer on Broadway' , jointly organised by the District Council and the Heritage Foundation , promises to be a day of great fun for all the family with lots of other entertainment, stalls, street entertainment and more, and will climax with a show-stopping finale by acclaimed Queen tribute band, Kings of Queen, at 7pm.
