Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation is looking to recruit someone to take on the role of a Governor of the Heritage Foundation.

What do Governors do?

Governors attend five meetings a year, including the Garden City Meeting held in May. They serve on Heritage Foundation committees and represent the Heritage Foundation on external bodies and organisations. Governors have a substantial voice in shaping the future of the world's first Garden City. Among the first to be consulted on major new initiatives, they provide an invaluable conduit with the Letchworth Garden City community. They do not get paid.

How many Governors are there?

The Rules of the Heritage Foundation allow for a total of up to 30 Governors. There are three ways in which someone may become a Heritage Foundation Governor:

  • Elected - Six are elected, every five years, by a ballot of registered voters in the Garden City.
  • Nominated - Eight are nominated by Letchworth Garden City clubs and societies. In addition, two places are permanently reserved for the representatives of North Hertfordshire District Council and Hertfordshire County Council.
  • General - Fourteen are appointed by the Heritage Foundation's eight-strong Board of Management, six of whom the Governors elect at the AGM.

The Heritage Foundation is currently seeking to recruit a new General Governor.
