New Scout Headquarters

The Heritage Foundation Board outside the new Scout HQA new custom-built headquarters and camp centre has been created for Letchworth and Baldock District Scouts and Guides as an expansion to their current meeting places.

The £320,000 project at Wymondley Wood was funded by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and provides all the facilities required by the area's thriving Scout and Guide movements, including a large activity hall, kitchen, accommodation wing and separate camping amenities. Situated within a large area of open grassland, providing many opportunities for camping and outdoor pursuits, the headquarters has been heartily received by all concerned.

The official opening of the Wymondley Wood Scout and Guide Centre takes place on Saturday 24 May 2003, by invitation only. The Chief Scout, George Purdy CBE and the Chief Guide, Mrs Jenny Leach, will perform the opening ceremony.

In addition to the initial outlay, Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation is providing £13,000 towards first year rent costs, reducing in subsequent years, plus £5,000 towards the costs of a Centenary Jamboree to celebrate the opening of the new centre.
