Resting place for plaquesTwo engraved plaques presented by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, symbolising Letchworth Garden City's Centenary, have now found an appropriate and permanent home.

In January, Stuart Kenny, Director General of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, received the plaques - one commemorating town founder Ebenezer Howard and the other the Centenary, from Gavyn Arthur, in Mansion House, London. On Friday 4 July, Mr Kenny unveiled the new plaques sited on the outside of the 1913 First Garden City Ltd Estate Office.

The Georgian style building in Broadway, designed by Parker and Unwin, a Grade 11* Listed Building, stands on the site of the original 1904 Garden City Estate Inquiry Office - a small wooden shed. From this building, the development of the world's first Garden City was orchestrated.Plaques up close

From 1963 to 1995, Letchworth Garden City Corporation used the building as its offices, from 1995 to 1998 it became the headquarters of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and now it is the home of the town's longest-established solicitors, Brignalls Balderston Warren.
