Garden City goes to London

Lord Mayor's Show 2003Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation joined in the pageantry, fun and spectacle of the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday 8 November. This year's show pulled in a crowd of more than 500,000 people and was the biggest ever in its 800-year history.

The Heritage Foundation was represented brilliantly by a fine body of volunteers dressed as sunflowers who waved, jumped, danced, shouted, sang their hearts out and lifted the banner proudly for Letchworth Garden City.

The invitation was extended to Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation by the 787th Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Robert Finch, as this is the town's Centenary year.

The parade along the 3.2-mile route featured more than 6,000 participants, 2,000 military personnel and more than 70 colourful floats. The Lord Mayor was blessed at St Paul's Cathedral before he moved on to the Royal Courts of Justice where he swore allegiance to the Queen.
